While going back to college can be difficult and time consuming, lots of people succeed at it. Advancing your career or changing career paths altogether are excellent reasons to go back to college. This list of celebrities that have gone back to college, often after working in their industry for years, is living proof that you can do it too!

Shakira - History of Civilization
Latin pop singer and Grammy Award Winner Shakira recently enrolled in a history of western civilization course at the University of California, Los Angeles. She reportedly wore a big backpack and hat, and even went by a different name so she would be less recognizable -- that's something not every college student struggles with.

Shaquille O'Neal - Business
O'Neal is a star both on the basketball court and in the classroom. The multiple award-winning NBA All-Star left school to pursue his athletic career, but promised his mother he would go back someday. In 2000 he graduated with his Bachelor's in Business from Louisiana Sate University and in 2005 he earned his Master of Business Education from the University of Phoenix. O'Neal said he decided to go back to college after thinking about what he will do when he retires from basketball.

James Franco - English
Best known for his role in all three Spider-Man movies, actor James Franco went back to the University of California, Los Angeles to earn an honors degree in English in 2008. But he's not stopping there. Franco is currently working toward his Master of Fine Arts in writing at Columbia University. Even Golden Globe winners earn degrees.

Michael Jordan - Geography
Michael Jordan left school to play basketball and became one of the most well-known players in the NBA. However, being an NBA champion, MVP, All-Star, and Slam Dunk Contest Winner multiple times wasn't enough for Jordan. He went back to college at North Carolina-Chapel Hill and earned his degree in geography.

Steven Spielberg - Film
Everyone loves Jaws and E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial but few people realize the man behind these movie successes earned his degree at the age of 55. Spielberg went back to college to earn his Bachelor of Arts from Cal State University's film school even after a successful and busy career and after being awarded five honorary doctorates. If Spielberg can benefit from going back to college, so can you.

Sandra Bullock - Drama
Actress Sandra Bullock, who starred in movies like While You Were Sleeping and The Blind Side and has won an Oscar and Golden Globe, among several other awards, left East Carolina University in favor of acting. However, she later returned and earned her bachelor's degree.

Brian May - Physics
Brian May, lead guitarist for Queen graduated from London's Imperial College with honors in physics and mathematics. Impressively, after being in the music industry for 30 years, May went back to college and earned his Ph.D. in physics. He wrote his thesis on Interplanetary Dust and was invited back to the school as a visiting researcher to study astronomy.

48. MALCOLM X- The true life story of Malcolm X an influential black human rights activist

49. OLIVER TWIST- Based on Charles Dickens movie about a young orphan boy and the troubles he finds as he tries to survive in a harsh world

50. THE JESSE OWENS STORY- The true story about Jesse Owens the African American athlete who proved Hitler wrong about the Aryan physical superiority

Film Synopsis: The Cable Guy Starring Jim Carrey & Matthew Broderick

There is something powerful about being the Cable Guy (Jim Carrey) that provides him with a certain confidence.  Not only does he get invited into the homes of many he also can grant his favorite customers with free premium channels.  Steven Kovacs (Matthew Broderick) decides to take his friend Rick's (Jack Black) advices and considers bribing the cable guy with fifty bucks to hook up his new place.  After four hours of waiting around the Cable Guy shows up to get Steven's new apartment connected.

Within minutes of meeting the Cable Guy we quickly come to the conclusion that he is not all there as he feels the walls of Steven's apartment looking for the sweet spot.  The Cable Guy goes one step further and completely reconfigures Steven's apartment for optimal cable reception.  After an uncomfortable exchange he agrees to provide Steven with free premium channels and a friendship is formed.  He invites Steven to check out the satellite dish with him the following day and the uncomfortable relationship begins.

As the two get deeper into their friendship Steven learns more about the Cable Guy, who goes by Chip Douglas, and his social inadequacies.   Steven's first clue that Chip is a little off balance is discovered when Chip knows far too much about Steven's ex-girlfriend Robin (Leslie Mann).  Knowing that Steven wants desperately to get back with his ex Robin, Chip thinks getting the two back together will solidify his relationship with Steven.

One of the funniest scenes of the film occurs when Chip shows up during a pickup basketball game with Steven and his friends.  The group is not quite sure how to take Chip with his tight shorts, tank-top and mouth guard as Chip takes the game far too serious.  The game ends when Chip smashes the backboard with one of his power dunks.

Unfortunately for the film it ends up taking a dark spin as Chip becomes obsessed with getting revenge against Steven and his evil side really shows.  Elements of Steven's life begin changing for the worse and he soon suspects that Chip is responsible.   Steven realizes that these events cant be a coincidence and when he discovers that Chip is to blame he discovers more about the Cable Guy than he wanted to know.  As suspected Chip ends up as messed up as the audience thought all along.

The Cable Guy is not one of the best Jim Carrey movies of his career.  Although he played the character of Chip Douglass brilliantly the writing and storyline of the film were a bit more than comedy fans were ready for.  If you are looking for funny scenes this movie is full of them but dont look for a great story.

Film Review: Just Wright Starring Queen Latifah

At first glance, Just Wright can be seen through advertisements as something of a mixture between a sports flick and a chick flick. Rapper-turned-actress Queen Latifah stars as Leslie Wright, a struggling physical therapist, who after a chance meeting at a New Jersey gas station meets NBA star Scott McKnight played by rapper Common.



Invited to a house party to celebrate McKnights birthday, Leslies quest for a man (specifically McKnight) is upended by her clever godsister Morgan (Paula Patton) who manipulates her personality in a quest to seem like the perfect mate for the community-minded athlete.



What makes Just Wright a good film that can be enjoyed by all, is that it is not simply just a basketball film or a romantic comedy, but a story of mans insecurity, despite fame and fortune.



Many athletes or entertainers will attest to the fact that finding that special someone or finding purpose after the limelight is something that can cause sleepless nights. In the film, McKnight faces both battles while overcoming a devastating knee injury that could very easily cut his career short.



After proposing to Morgan and beginning negotiations on a new contact, Commons character tears his PCL. When it becomes obvious that he has a hard road to recovery, Pattons character leaves him and the engagement ring behind.



Determined to lift his spirits, Queen Latifah puts him through a grueling regimen to rebuild his knee, rebuild his career and rebuild his sinking self-esteem. What predictably develops is a true friendship and obvious attraction, which leads to the two becoming more than friends.



However, after the basketball star is able to return to the court for the New Jersey Nets, the gold-digging Morgan returns to his life and threatens what could be a stronger relationship with Leslie.



Just Wright scores because it is a realistic portrayal of the struggle that many professional athletes face when looking for that someone special. Here in Houston, girls flock to the Fonde Recreation Center in the summer to catch professional basketball players fine-tuning their game during the offseason.



Most importantly, it also shows that many of these athletes are not simply interested in the money and fame that comes from sports, but also the ability to give back to the community, a characteristic that is as much a part of McKnight personality as his skills on the court.



Furthermore, it shows the inspiration that comes from having that special someone in your life that can motivate you when the times get rough.



Just Wright fails only on the basketball court, where Commons athletic skills do not quite match up with his up-and-coming acting career. Nevertheless, the film features cameo appearances by some of the NBAs best from Dwight Howard, Dwayne Wade and Rajon Rondo.



The film, which is now in theaters everywhere, is the good film that it is because non-sports fans can also find inspiration from McKnights perseverance and all can find inspiration from the sight of true love.



As a result of strong performances by Queen Latifah, Common and Patton, Just Wright, may be just right for moviegoers from all walks of life.
